Week 4 June 5th to 12th

This week was full of rain.  It was tough to keep up with the weeding and pictures.  The Oshawa Peony festival started June 12th and I brought a few peonies to the show.  I again won a few ribbons, but it was for flowers that I had picked and put in the fridge.  Saturday was very busy, but there was some time to help out on Sunday at the show.  Glad I was inside, because it rained Sunday afternoon.  It was fun to share stories with other gardeners.
There was a lot that happened during the week.

June 5th brought Chocolate Soldier, Red Grace, Coral Sunset, Garden Treasure, and Flame.

June 11th I spent the day weeding.  It was the only day without rain.  I did not even look around.  June 12th was too busy with the Oshawa Peony Festival and the family BBQ.
Next week has many more peonies to see.
This week had seven new plants to the garden and one that has been here for two years and bloomed for the first time.  Hope that you had time to visit a peony garden near you.

Third week of blooms May 28 to June 4th

So far it has been dry and a great start.  We are a little early this year.
Sunny Girl opened May 28th.

Then we got rain.

Hillary is new to the garden.  I was surprised that it opened so early.  I can't wait until this plant get more mature.  Hillary opened on June 1.
Mackinac Grand is a lovely red that blooms early.   It also is new to the garden and opened June 1.

June 2nd brought
Unknown tree and
High Noon.  Both are trees.  The unknown red tree is not as good this year.  The rabbits have been eating it during the winter for the past couple of years.  High noon is doing much better since it has been moved.

June 3 brought Lemon Chiffon, Goldilocks, Early Glow, and Dai Jo Kuhan

Goldilocks was lovely this spring.

Dai Jo Kuhan is the unkown pink that came from my Aunt's house.  This plant just blooms and blooms with all of the side buds.

June 4th brought Buckeyed Belle, Dad, and Red Charm.

Buckeyed Belle was a double and a semi double on the same plant.

Dad is such a large flower.

Red Charm is a show stopper in the garden.

That brings 11 total new blooms that opened this week and 21 different kinds blooming.
The Oshawa peony is more than a week away, but there is a show in Ottawa on June 6th and 7th.  I am planning to go.

Second Week of Blooms 2015

Athena opened May 24th this year.  The colours were glorious and so many blossoms on the plant.

Fernleaf Double Red-Ruba Flora Plena also opened on May 24th.  Love the fine leaves on this plant.

Ezra Pound has such a wonderful scent. This tree peony is one of my favorites.  Ezra Pound opened on May 25th.

Red Spider has an unusual scent.  It opened May 25th.  The plant is only two years old and is still low to the ground. Lovely looking.

Pastelegance is new to the garden this year, it is such a lovely flower.  The camera again does not capture the beauty of the flower.  There were three blossoms.  The stems were strong enough to hold the flower up. The flower opened on May 27th.
Caroline is also new to the garden. Caroline also opened on May 27th.

So far the spring has been very dry.  The new peonies are all doing well. We are starting off earlier then last year.  The frost on did not hurt the peonies even the ones that were blooming.  The frost did damage the some of the trees around here.

First Week of Blooms

The season of peonies blooming has begun.  The season has started slightly earlier then last year.  The first peony is the unknown.  This year I saw the unknown peony on planet peony and it was called
Paeonia officialis Mollis.
This flower first opened May 13th.  What a wonderful start.
Nova was a surprise.  It opened without any notice.  This picture does not show the beautiful yellow in the petals. There is a strong stem holding the flower up and does not need any support.  I am enjoying the plant more and more each year.  This flower opened May 19th.

On the same day Nose Gay opened. Again the camera does not show the lovely peach colour in the petals.  The flower is small compared to Nova.

New to the garden this year is Fernleaf Hybrid.  Light lacy leaves and the early flower make this a must have plant.  I had purchased this plant a few years ago, but it had died.  I replaced it last fall.  There is more then one blossom on the plant making it a great replacement.  Over the next few years it will get better and better.  It opened on May 20th.
